Vietnamese rice

Vietnam has 02 main rice culture regions: Mekong Delta River (52%), Red River Delta (18%). Of course, there is some other areas cultivating rice but yield is not productive for exporting and mostly is local rice variety for domestic distribution. 

In Red River Delta, we have 02 main rice crops: Summer Rice Crop haversted from end of May to early of June and Winter Rice Crop haversted from end of October to early of November. Productive variety in Red River Delta is long grain white rice with few read-to-export rice mills. 

 Mekong Delta River is very favorable for rice exportation in Vietnam in terms of weather, river canal and people. This region can have 03 rice crops with 02 main yield crops: Summer rice crops haverted in mid of August, Winter rice crop haversted in early of April and short early winter crop haversted in end of November. 

Rice is cultivated more concentrately in Mekong Delta River with many rice variety fit the global market demand such as: Jasmine Rice, KDM, OM4900, ST21, ST24, DT8, Long grain white rice (OM504, 5451), short grain- Japonica, Glutinous rice, Nàng hoa rice, Calrose, etc. 

So let's look at details of each rice varieties in Vietnam. 

1. Vietnamese fragrant jasmine rice is a high quality fragrant rice, the kernel is big, length, and white. Rice is flexible, light aroma, rice is still flexible when cooled. You will love the natural fragrant and soft tender even put it for a day. 
2. Vietnam rice OM 4900 rice is also fragrant rice, light aroma, long grain rice, white rice. Main markets which enjoy this rice variety is Southeast Asia countries, West African countries. 
3. DT 8 rice is a light fragrant rice, newly grown & developed in Vietnam. Main markets enjoy this rice variety is China and Southeast Asia countries. 
4. Nang Hoa Rice: is high quality fragrant rice, fragrant like jasmine flowers, long grain rice, white, flower rice are grown in Long An province and Bac Lieu, rice is fragrant and flexible , especially rice is still flexible when it is  kept to overnight. 
5. Japonica rice is short grain rice originated from Japan which is typical recipe for Japanese cuisine like sushi. 
6. OM5451 long grain white rice: it is combination of Jasmine rice 85 and OM2490. OM5451 is optimal for companies with large staffs, industrial catering companies. Main markets enjoy OM5451 are Singapore, East African countries, Ivory Coast, France, Middle East.
